Volunteer Opportunities

If you are looking to volunteer your time with the South Bend-Elkhart Audubon Society, we have several opportunities available. No prior experience is necessary to volunteer - we’ll teach you all you need to know!

  • Events - We do several events throughout the year at various festivals, science fairs, and expos. These events are typically 4-6 hours long, so we try to have a few shifts of volunteers available.

  • Join a committee - If you are interested in helping out with a specific part of our society, there may be a committee you can join. Review the committee chairs list on our board page to learn more.

  • Join the board - Our Board of Directors determines the goals of the society for years to come. We currently have openings for a programs coordinator and publicity chair.

  • Invasive Species Removal - Weather permitting, we hold invasive species removal days at the sanctuary. During this time we concentrate on a specific section of the property and remove harmful invasive species such as garlic mustard, oriental bittersweet, and multiflora rose.

  • Bird Surveys - We do a bird count of the area in May as well as near Christmas. If you are an inexperienced birder, we can put you with someone who has done this before - you’ll learn a lot!

  • Climate Watch - Our Conservation Chair coordinates a local Climate Watch program, where we count birds on a regular basis in predefined sectors. This will help to understand how birds are effected by climate change in the coming years.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities or can help out in another way, please contact us.
